Pyramid-shaped UAP reports include the 2019 USS Russell footage released by the Department of Defense, which was confirmed authentic in 2021.
The pyramid is a recent and unusually well-bounded entry, owing almost entirely to a single piece of footage. In 2019 personnel aboard the destroyer USS Russell recorded objects through night-vision optics that appeared as flickering triangular or pyramidal shapes; the footage was released and its authenticity confirmed by the Department of Defense in 2021, which is what placed the form in the catalogue at all.
The case is also a cautionary one, and we record the caution prominently. Subsequent analysis — including assessment associated with the Pentagon’s UAP investigators — concluded the pyramidal appearance was most likely a bokeh artefact: out-of-focus points of light, probably commonplace aircraft or drones, rendered into faceted shapes by the triangular aperture of the night-vision camera. In other words, the geometry was an optical signature of the instrument, not of the object.
That makes the pyramid less a distinct morphology than a lesson in how sensors generate shape. We retain it because the footage is genuine and the chain of explanation is itself instructive: a confirmed-authentic recording with a well-supported conventional reading. Where the optics, not the object, produce the form, we say so.
