Intra-terrestrials
Reportedly Earth-originating but non-human intelligences — hollow-earth claims, undersea bases, and adjacent traditions.
ALSO KNOWN AS: Inner-Earth
Reports of non-human intelligences originating from within Earth itself — caverns, subterranean civilisations, USOs (unidentified submerged objects).
This typology is set apart from the others by its origin claim rather than its form: the proposition that a non-human intelligence is native to Earth itself, dwelling in deep caverns, a hollow interior, or beneath the sea. The morphology of the beings described varies widely — humanoid, serpentine, or wholly unfamiliar — because the unifying thread is the place they are said to come from, not their appearance.
The cultural trail is long and largely literary and folkloric. It runs through subterranean traditions in many mythologies, the nineteenth-century hollow-earth speculation that followed John Cleves Symmes, and the twentieth-century controversy around Richard Shaver’s accounts in the pulp press. Alongside these sit reports of unidentified submerged objects — USOs — entering and leaving the water, which belong more properly to the sighting record than to the folklore.
We draw that line carefully here, because much of this category is tradition and claim rather than documented event. We catalogue what is reported and where it originates in the record, cite the trail behind it, and do not present speculation as evidence.
